Abstract

The development of cheap, sustainable and renewable alternative energy is one way to overcome the limitations of the use of fossil energy. One of the raw materials that can be used as an alternative energy source is coconut shell and acacia wood which are processed in the manufacture of liquid smoke. In this study, an analiysis of the characteristics of coconut shell biobriquettes and acacia wood was carried out to determine the feasibility of biobriquettes by comparing the proximate analysis of biobriquettes and assessing the calorific value of coconut shell and acacia wood biobriquettes produced in the pyrolysis process. In the process of making liquid smoke, the required pyrolysis/ carbonization time is 5 hours, so that the carbonizations can be determined from the calorific value of the biobriquettes produced. From the results of the research, the characteristics of coconut shell biobriquettes are in accordance with the quality standard of SNI 01-6235-2000 where the calorific value produced is 6374,864 cal/gr, 7,16% water content, and 7,45% ash content. For a mixture of coconut shell biobriquettes and acacia wood, only the calorific value that meets the quality standars of SNI 01-6235-2000 is 5045,0681 cal/gr. For the characteristics of acacia wood biobriquettes, the calorific value and proximate value have not met the standars of SNI 01-6235-2000.
