Abstract

AbstractTeaching English for young learners requires a strategy that should fit in with their psychological condition. Young learners or children have such an abundant amount of energy that makes them phisically active and may not be able to sit still or concentrate for a long period of time. Therefore, giving them a series of class activities which pressure them to listen carefully to the teacher may lead to undesireable results such as their becoming bored and restrained or even worse, developing indignation towards the lesson itself. There is nothing good that can be derived from this situation in which the children have shielded themselves from learning, A strategy should be made in which young learners may have their natural tendencies to play be catered for, while at the same time they are also learning their lesson which, in this case, the English language. As for this year’s public service, the writer and his team managed to share some of the teaching strategies for young learners with Yayasan Al-Kahfi Cabang Palembang.
